Welcome to Ash Class

A warm welcome back to everyone, we are so excited to see you all again. After such an exceptional time, it has been lovely to have the children back in school.  Mrs Rice will be teaching on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Pemberton will be teaching on a Thursday and Friday and we are looking forward to this new year with Ash class.  Mrs O’Malley will also be supporting the children with their learning on some days.

We understand that it has been a difficult few months for everyone and that settling back into learning may be challenging for some. Therefore, to support your child returning to school our priority will be around well-being and health during this first half term. To help the Year 1’s transition into KS1, we will be offering continuous provision opportunities throughout the day.

The School Day

Children in Ash Class are using the children’s entrance and need to arrive at school at 8.45am and be picked up at 3.15pm. It is essential that all children arrive and leave at these times to avoid contact with other classes. If they have siblings in other classes, they may be dropped off at the earlier time. All families are to use the green gate then follow the path to the children’s entrance whilst maintaining social distancing, being role models for the children  about how to behave in public places, using the white lines. Families must then use the white gate to exit. Although the start and finish times have changed, no teaching time has been reduced in order to accommodate this.

Please make sure that your child brings their packed lunch, water bottle and coat to school every day. School packed lunches are available to be ordered if you’d prefer. Also, with it being the start of a new school year and with many new items of clothing, please make sure that every item of your child’s clothing is named including shoes. All equipment that your child needs for learning will be provide in school so children do not need to bring anything extra like pencil cases.

Communication with Parents

Due to the new routines, it may not be possible to speak to your child’s teacher at the door. However, we fully understand how important communication with parents is. Please telephone or email the office to pass on information or to arrange a socially distanced meeting with a teacher after school. We will also be using tapestry to communicate with parents via sending memos and will endeavour to update you with pictures of what your children are learning about in school. Please note that we are no longer using the class sharing and caring pages on Tapestry.

Spelling and Reading Books

Each child will be given a spelling folder which will contain the list of spellings they need to learn and practice at home for that week. Spelling tests and new lists will be given out on Fridays, and therefore children will need to bring their spelling folders into school on Friday mornings.

It is expected that children read for at least 10 minutes every day at home.  You can also use this time to help your child understand their book by discussing the characters, setting, and plot or finding out the meaning of words they are unsure about. Reading books can only be brought back into school and changed on a Tuesday although multiple books can go home during the week if needed. We will not be using reading records for the first half term.

Outdoor Learning and PE

On Mondays and Fridays, Ash class will have PE, so please ensure that your child comes to school that day in a tracksuit and trainers. Year 1’s will have outdoor learning with Miss Wilson on Tuesdays and Year 2’s will have outdoor learning with Mrs Pemberton on Thursdays. On these days, children will need to come to school in appropriate outdoor clothing, waterproofs, trainers and wellies to wear outside brought to school in a bag.

Our Curriculum

We are going to begin the year with a strong focus on PSHE, understanding our emotions and coping with anxieties. In maths, we will be using lots of practical resources to learn about number and place value. In literacy and topic, we are looking at an ‘All About Me’ unit which will include writing about what makes us unique, our families and our goals and aspirations. We will be busy learning about the human body and what makes us healthy in Science and looking at RE we’ll be looking at friendship. During our PE lessons, we will be doing multi-skills to improve our agility, balance and coordination and some yoga to help us relax.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us in school. Thank you for the ongoing support with your child’s education.
