Welcome to the Spring Term 2022! 

Spring Term- 'Rainforests'

We will be learning about the fascinating world of rainforests. We will be looking at the different layers that make up a rainforest, where they are lcoated in the world and why, what animals live there and humans too! We will explore the disappearing rainforest and learn about the need to protect these amazing, natural habitats. In Science we will be learning about 'Plants' which links in nicely with this Geography based Topic. 

Our English learning will be centred on the famous story, 'The Great Kapok Tree' by Lynne Cherry. We will learn to write a persuasuve letter, setting description and dilemma narrative focussing on inverted commas, expanded noun phrases and a variety of conjunctions.  

We will be continuing with Multiplication and Division in Maths. Year 3 will be using thier 3x, 4x and 8x tables and Year 4 will be using all up to 12x12 to multiplu and divide a 2-digit by 1-digit number. We will be moving onto fractions later in the term. Children have thier Times Tables Rockstars log-ins to keep practising thier times table knowledge. 

In RE, we will be learning about Salvation. Our learning will be focused around the key question, 'Why do Christians call the day Jesus died 'Good Friday'?' This is timely planned to link with Easter and Holy Week in the Church Calendar this term. 

PSHE will continue weekly, the children's wellbeing is still a top priotiry for us all at Fladbury. We will be exploring, 'Don't hold on to what is wrong' from our Heartsmart scheme. We will be looking at forgiveness and why saying sorry is important for our hearts to be healthy. 

PE will take place on Friday afternoons. This will take place outdoors so please come to school wearing a warm, suitable PE kit to school on that day (tracksuit, t-shirt, jumper and trainers). This term we will be learning the skills to play Tag Rugby. Swimming will continue on Monday mornings. 

Oak will have Outdoor Learning on a Thursday morning with Mrs Rice, where they will be taking learning outdoors as well as exploring nature, especially leading up to Spring and the changes that happen during this time of new life and growth. Please remember to bring in your Forest School kit, with your wellies in a named bag.  

In Art, we will be leanring about the great artist Henry Rousseau. We will focus in particular on his famous painting, 'Tiger in a Tropical Storm' 1891, as well as looking at his other rainforest/jungle paintings. We will have a go at painting our own rainforest scene using his techniques. 

Spelling tests will be on Mondays, please practice your words daily in readiness for this and bring your yellow spelling folders in too! 

Reading books need to be taken home and brought back into school everyday, thank you for listening to your child read at home.
